The Anger Iceberg is a visual tool that helps children understand that anger is only what people see on the surface. Beneath it lie deeper emotions — like loneliness, shame, fear, or feeling unheard — that are often the real cause of an outburst. By naming these hidden feelings, children begin to understand and manage their emotions more effectively.
The Catbears Anger Iceberg is designed for children aged 4 to 16. The language is simple enough for young children but meaningful enough for teenagers, making it a versatile tool across a wide age range.
This tool is designed for parents, teachers, school counselors, and therapists working with children. It works equally well at home after a difficult moment, in the classroom as part of an emotional literacy lesson, or in a therapy or counseling session.
Yes. The Anger Iceberg is a visual, non-verbal tool that works especially well for children who are visual learners or who struggle to articulate their feelings verbally. It provides a concrete, accessible way to explore emotions without relying on language alone.
Yes, completely free. Download, print, and use it as many times as you like — at home, in the classroom, or in your practice. No sign-up required.
Absolutely. You're welcome to print and use it with as many children as you'd like. Please don't resell or redistribute the file itself.
The Anger Iceberg works best when a child is calm — not mid-meltdown. Use it after a difficult moment, or simply as a conversation starter at a relaxed time. Ask your child: "Have you ever felt any of these feelings?" and let them lead the conversation.
Print it out and sit together during a calm moment. Ask your child to point to or circle any feelings they recognise. Use the iceberg as a springboard for deeper conversation — you don't need to have all the answers. Simply listening and validating their feelings is enough.

Yes. The concept of secondary emotions — the idea that anger often masks deeper feelings — is well established in psychology and therapeutic practice, including CBT, emotion coaching, and the Gottman method. The Catbears Anger Iceberg translates this clinical knowledge into a warm, accessible, child-friendly format.
